Vintage Jewelry
Vintage Jewelry and collecting costume jewelry! Many people ask how do I collect vintage jewelry and what do I look for? Its simple: When it comes to rhinestones look for prong set not glued. And glass rhinestones rather then plastic. Signed pieces such as Weiss, Sarah Coventry, Bergere, Warner, Charel, West Germany, and Avon are all good names in high quality costume jewelry. Also look at the jewelry findings, how they are made. Are the clasps on the bracelet shutting correctly? Are the earrings, if clip style, snapping shut well? Are the pins on the backs straight? Are the necklaces long enough and how does it stay closed? Some are box clasps and they are easier to do yourself, rather than a lobster claw. Also on necklaces rhinestones and fancy closings make a piece far more lovely to look at. When it comes to pearls in costume jewelry. Real pearls are nice but the fake ones are just as beautiful. Who can tell! Bib necklaces from Hong Kong and Japan made from are a favorite of mine because of the intricate designs. I love silver jewelry. Silver pieces clean up well and look just as beautiful as real gold. Beau Sterling is a name you can trust. For fun figural pins: JJ pins are made in all kinds of fun designs from: dogs to fish. JJ just went out of business and are highly collectible right now. JJ used many different types of pewter, enamel, and gold tone designs. Also not every collectible signed piece is worth tons of money. Some remind you of a loved one, a relative, grandmother, mother, friend. And those are worth millions to you. Good luck to you on collecting your vintage jewelry |
